- This blog is about our life with Abby. When Abby was 13 months old, she was diagnosed with lipomyelomeningocele or a tethered spinal cord. Our adventure started in February, so if you want to read from the beginning, that is where you should start. While Abby's diagnosis falls under the heading of Spina Bifida, this could not have been prevented by folic acid the way myelomeningocele spina bifida can be. Abby looks great! Is she on any pain medication? Just wondering....

It's impossible to tell from looking at Abby's picture just what she has been through. Children are tough and bounce back so quickly. They heal much quicker than old people like me. :)
The only pain medication she is on is Motrin which we are slowly weaning her off of. The most pain seems to be the stretching of the incision itself and the mass of spinal fluid under the wound.
