Strolling along

(pics removed....sorry =( )

Here we are strolling around the hospital in the wagon. It was so nice to have Abby free from the spinal drain. So far, so good as far as leaks are concerned. Physical therapy was in today and helped Abby to sit up and to try to walk. The sitting she can do for about 15 minutes and then she gets tired. As for walking, her trunk is really weak and we have to really stabilize her in order for her to walk. Her legs are also very Jell-O-like. It will probably take some physical therapy for her to get back to normal. However, they do not want Abby to run, climb, bend, or twist for two weeks. After that we can do physical therapy if we need it.

Going home is such a mix of emotions. Boy will it be good to get home, but we are terrified of getting her home and having to do the two hour drive with Abby in pain all over again. The PICC line with antibiotics, and keeping her down for the two weeks seem very overwhelming to me as well.

Dear Eileen,
I can only imagine your fears, but I KNOW this about you and Ken...you are both very strong, determined parents who will rise to the task(s) that will be presented when you return home. Trust your instincts--you've gained valuable experience in the time you've been in the hospital, and you're going to surprise yourselves at how well you're going to handle things at home. Personally, I am in awe of the way you two have conducted yourselves throughout this roller coaster ride. Impressive. Very impressive.
Love,
Aunt Susan
P.S. It's great to see those pictures of Abby. Physical therapy will work wonders, I promise!
