Beds

Abby has always hated to sleep--especially in her crib. We've tried everything. I've read all the books, The Happiest Baby on the Block, The Baby Whisperer, The Toddler Whisper, The No Cry Sleep Solution, and lastly, Solve Your Child's Sleep Problems. The latter is also known as the Ferber Method because it was created by Dr. Ferber. Essentially, you let the child cry for increasing intervals so that they learn to put themselves to sleep. We used this method at 8 months and a couple times since then. Abby still never slept through the night, but would put herself to sleep without a fuss and sleep until about 3 a.m. Recently though this all changed. She wouldn't go down in her crib.

What do you do when a 35 inch 17 month old won't sleep in her crib? Put her in a toddler bed of course. FAIL! Abby won't go near the toddler bed. So where has she been sleeping? Right now she is sleeping on her fold out mini-couch thing that Nanny and Grumpy got her for her birthday. She only sleeps there until about midnight before winding up in bed with us.

We have one more idea we are contemplating--forgoing the toddler bed all together and just converting her crib into a full size bed with bed rails on it. We are at a loss of where to go from here. Not knowing what she'll be like when we bring her home from surgery doesn't help matters either.

So for right now, she's sleeping on the floor next to her crib (yes, yet put the crib back in her room after the toddler bed fail). Anyone care to tell Abby that sleep is good?

We put a twin mattress on the floor for Ryan. Then he wouldn't hurt himself falling out of bed. It doesn't look too sightly but it worked.

I'm glad you had a nice Mother's Day. :)
